The Nigerian Senate has denied approving the creation of 31 new states as reported on social media. According to Senator Yemi Adaramodu, the Senate spokesperson, the information is false and misleading, and the public should rely on verified information from official government channels ¹.
Although there have been proposals for state creation, these are still at the preliminary stage and require broad consultations, legal amendments, and public approval through referenda. Some of the proposed new states include ² ³:

- South-East:
- Etiti: proposed 6th SE state
- Adada: to be carved out of Enugu State
- Urashi, Orlu, Aba: from South-East region
