The Federal Government has restated its commitment to conducting a credible, transparent, and internationally recognized national census, assuring Nigerians that all processes will strictly follow due procedure.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr. Aminu Yusuf. He emphasized that accurate population data is crucial for effective national planning and sustainable development.
Idris assured the NPC of the full support of his ministry and its agencies, particularly in nationwide public sensitization, once President Bola Tinubu officially proclaims a census date. He added that government-owned media organizations would be fully deployed to encourage widespread public participation.
The minister further stressed that a presidential proclamation remains the legal basis for conducting the census, noting that all preparations are being aligned with global best practices.
In his remarks, Dr. Yusuf stated that the commission is operationally ready, with systems, logistics, and personnel undergoing final refinements. He also called for sustained public enlightenment to build trust and ensure the success of the census exercise.
