The Oyo State Fire Service has recovered the bodies of two men from separate well-related incidents across the state.
The victims include a 30-year-old man, Shina Adedeji, and another man, aged about 45, whose identity was not disclosed. One of the men reportedly died while attempting to rescue a goat that had fallen into a well.
The Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Reforms and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Moroof Akinwande, confirmed the incidents in a statement issued on Tuesday in Ibadan.
According to Akinwande, Adedeji fell into a well at the Aaje Ikose area of Ogbomoso in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area on Tuesday, while the second victim was recovered from a deep well at the Mokola area of Saki in Saki West Local Government Area on Monday.
He explained that the agency received a distress call at about 10:23 p.m. on Monday from a running caller and Yusuf Ismail, reporting that a man had fallen into a well in the Mokola area of Saki. Firefighters, led by PFS II Kolade Taiwo, immediately mobilised to the scene, where they found a man of about 45 years trapped inside a deep well.
The officers secured the area with appropriate equipment and successfully retrieved the body. Investigations revealed that the man had entered the well in an attempt to rescue a goat but became trapped.

On the Ogbomoso incident, Akinwande said the fire service received another distress call at about 9:45 a.m. on February 3 from a running caller and CFM Adeleke. Firefighters, led by CFM Oladejo, responded swiftly and recovered the body of Shina Adedeji, aged 30, from a well at Aaje Ikose.
He noted that the victim was trapped in the well, which contained ammonia gas, while trying to retrieve a fetcher.
Akinwande warned members of the public to always prioritise their safety during daily activities, stressing that human life is irreplaceable.
He also recalled a similar incident reported on January 25, 2026, when the agency recovered the body of a 33-year-old man from an abandoned well at a Rain Oil filling station along the Alakia–Adegbayi axis of Ibadan, Egbeda Local Government Area. The victim reportedly entered the well to clear debris and became trapped.
