The lifeless and decapitated body of Comrade Ifeanyi Azuazu, President of the Omoku Youth Federation, has been discovered in a forest located in Elieta, within the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State.
The body was recovered by operatives of the ONELGA Security and Planning Advisory Committee (OSPAC), several days after Azuazu was abducted by unidentified gunmen in Omoku.
Reports indicate that Azuazu was kidnapped on Thursday, February 5, 2026, during a violent attack at a popular drinking spot along Ogolo Street, off Palace Road, in Omoku. The incident occurred around 6:00 pm and also resulted in the death of his personal aide, Chigozie Oluwu.
Eyewitnesses said about seven armed attackers arrived in two vehicles and immediately opened fire upon seeing Azuazu. They ordered him into one of the vehicles, and when Oluwu attempted to resist or intervene, he was shot dead on the spot. The gunmen then forcefully took Azuazu away.
Confirming the development, OSPAC spokesperson Mr. Goodnews Nkem stated in a telephone interview that the body was later found in Elieta Forest, causing widespread shock, grief, and anger among residents of Omoku and surrounding communities.
Nkem appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies, including the police and the Department of State Services (DSS), as investigations continue to identify and arrest those responsible.
The attack triggered panic in the area, forcing residents and passersby to flee, while many shop owners quickly closed their businesses out of fear.
Attempts to obtain an official response from the Rivers State Police Command were unsuccessful. The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, said she would respond to inquiries but had not done so at the time of filing this report.
